Family Activities
Home Entertainment
Entertainment at home was provided by the radio, and to a lesser extent by the Victrola, the mechanical record player. There were weekday radio serials that the children listened to, and after a while there were soap operas that Mom became a fan of, "Our Gal Sunday", and "The Life of Helen Trent." Mom also liked the program "The Goldbergs", an afternoon or evening series that was a soap opera about a Jewish family with a very wise mother, Molly, and a not-quite-so-wise father, Jake. On Sunday evenings we all listened to the Eddie Cantor and Jack Benny and Fred Alien comedy and variety programs.
